Cerebrospinal Trauma

Cerebrospinal traum

Spinal traumas usually happen during falling or accidents. Clinical presentation depends on the level of spinal cord injuries and reveals in the absence of movements, numbness in the body in the area below the injury; disorders of the pelvic organs (enuresis ( involuntary urination) or difficulties during urination). Forced position of injured limbs and decrease of the range of passive movements are formed at the late stages.

Diagnostics consists of specification of trauma and neurological examination. The most informative among the instrumental methods are MRI and computer tomography which allow detect the level of injury and the stage of the spinal cord damage (complete or partial rupture).

Course of treatment in our clinic is divided into 2 stages (according to the period of trauma):

  1. Acute phase – treatment in neurosurgical hospital department with the limitation of patient’s movements. Fixation of the injured vertebra if needed to decrease the impact on the spinal cord.

  2. Stage of rehabilitation – the most important steps are physiotherapy, procedures with rehabilitologist, osteopathic doctor etc.

The use of stem cells at the first stage is possible in the early post-surgical period to stimulate inner regenerative properties of the body. At the second stage stem cells allow to improve the alimentation of the spinal cord and restore normal interrelations in it.

Duration of treatment of such patients is in average 10 days. During this period, much attention is devoted to the preparation of the body to the injection of several types of stem cells and physiotherapy.

Expected results: After the treatment patients feel slight improvement of general condition but under the conditions of keeping the recommendations and work with rehabilitation, there is a possibility to restore missing functions for a long time.
